Dubai's premium desert-safari segment is edging away from the evening dune-drive-and-dinner format that has defined the market for years. Platinum Heritage, one of the emirate's established high-end operators, is preparing to reopen its VIP offering on 1 October 2026 as the 'Royal Platinum Desert Experience': a private camp breakfast, a Land Rover Defender convoy, and an early departure into the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DCR) rather than the standard sunset slot. The move says less about one operator's calendar than about where premium desert travel in Dubai is heading.
Why operators are shifting to the morning
The evening dune-bashing-and-dinner format was built around volume: large convoys leave in the late afternoon, drive the open dune circuit, and gather at big shared camps after dark. It photographs well, but it is rarely quiet, and it says little about the desert itself beyond the thrill of the drive.
A sunrise departure flips that logic. Temperatures are lower, wildlife inside a protected reserve like the DCR is more active and easier to spot, the light is softer for photography, and the reserve's shared circuits are close to empty before the day's convoys start. For travellers who have already done the dune-bashing evening once, a calmer, reserve-based morning format reads as the more premium choice, not a lesser one.
