Frieze, the company behind the London and New York art weeks, has confirmed the programme for its first Abu Dhabi edition, which runs from 19 to 22 November 2026 at Manarat Al Saadiyat in the Saadiyat Cultural District. For a traveller planning a private November trip, this reshapes the calendar: the emirate's calmest luxury season now carries one of the art world's marquee events, a few steps from the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the soon-to-open Guggenheim.
What the inaugural edition brings
More than 80 galleries from 36 countries will show at Manarat Al Saadiyat, mixing blue-chip names such as Gagosian, Pace, Thaddaeus Ropac, Victoria Miro and Perrotin with strong regional voices, including Dubai's Carbon 12 and The Third Line. The balance, roughly four in ten exhibitors from the wider region, is what sets the fair apart from its European siblings and makes it a genuine window onto art from the Gulf, the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.
The curated programme is now public. Lebanese artist Dala Nasser is the first recipient of the Frieze Abu Dhabi Artist Award, and her installation Qubbat Duris sits at the heart of the fair. A separate exhibition, At Another Meeting Point, pairs the established Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem with the emerging Alia Zaal, alongside a talks programme with artists, curators and museum directors.
Shaping a private art week
The fair opens with a preview on 19 November before public days from 20 to 22 November, so the calmest hours belong to those who plan ahead. Beyond the tent, Frieze Sculpture Abu Dhabi places large-scale works along Mamsha Beach on Saadiyat Island from 16 November to 16 December, a free, open-air route you can walk privately at golden hour with a guide and a car on standby.
The setting is the real luxury. Manarat Al Saadiyat sits within walking distance of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum and teamLab Phenomena, with the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi due to open on 11 December. A private Saadiyat cultural day lets you fold the fair into unhurried, out-of-peak visits to these museums, with a chauffeur handling the hour-long run from Dubai and a guide timing each entry around the crowds.
Frieze Abu Dhabi turns the emirate's calm November into a cultural high point. Plan privately, and the fair, the sculpture trail and the Saadiyat museums become one unhurried, VIP-paced day.
