Aldar Unveils 'Noma', a New Creative Quarter Beside Saadiyat's Museums

20 October 20263 min read

On 16 October 2026, during Frieze London, Abu Dhabi developer Aldar announced a new creative neighbourhood called Noma, set to rise near Manarat Al Saadiyat. The Art Newspaper reported the news from the Frieze London Collectors' Dinner, weeks before Frieze Abu Dhabi makes its debut. Concrete details are still to come, but for anyone planning a private cultural trip it reframes what Saadiyat will be.

What Aldar announced

Aldar, the official partner of Frieze Abu Dhabi, used the London fair to introduce Noma, described as a creative neighbourhood north of Manarat Al Saadiyat — the exhibition hall that has hosted Abu Dhabi Art since 2011. The developer has not yet released concrete plans or an opening date, so the news is a statement of direction rather than a finished project. The chairman of both Aldar and the Department of Culture and Tourism, Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, has long argued that investing in culture 'does not just mean buildings'.

The timing matters. Frieze Abu Dhabi holds its first edition at Manarat Al Saadiyat from 19 to 22 November 2026, with 88 galleries focused on the Swana region. It sits inside the Saadiyat Cultural District, already home to Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum, with Guggenheim Abu Dhabi due to open in December. Noma points to the next layer: a place for artists and creative life around the museums, not only the institutions themselves.

What it means for a private visit

For a traveller who prefers to explore privately rather than in a group, the practical takeaway is that Saadiyat is becoming a multi-day anchor, not a single-museum stop. A private cultural itinerary this winter can already pair Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum with the Guggenheim opening and the Frieze fair, and Noma is the reason to keep returning as the district matures.

We suggest treating Saadiyat as a slow, curated day with a private guide, visiting at quieter hours and building the route around your own interests in art, architecture and food. From Dubai it is an easy chauffeured transfer; from an Abu Dhabi base it is minutes away. We will update this note when Aldar releases Noma's programme and timeline.

Noma has no date yet, but it confirms Saadiyat's trajectory from a museum cluster to a living arts quarter, a reason to build a private, unhurried cultural visit to Abu Dhabi this winter.
