The passenger rail line between Dubai and Abu Dhabi moved from promise to bookable reality this week. According to The National, tickets went on sale on 22 September 2026 ahead of the 30 September launch, and for the first time travellers can see the two travel classes and their fares. For a guest planning a private, unhurried trip across the two emirates, that changes the arithmetic of the day.
What went on sale on 22 September
The line links Dubai's Al Yalayis station with Abu Dhabi in about an hour, and it is sold in two classes: Comfort at Dh39 and a higher Premium class at Dh109. Tickets opened on 22 September, ahead of the full launch on 30 September, and are booked through the Etihad Rail website and mobile app.
The launch-day schedule runs five round trips, with the first train leaving at 06:14 and reaching Abu Dhabi at 07:18. Al Yalayis connects to the Dubai Metro Red Line via a roughly 400-metre elevated walkway and has on-site services including a café and car rental, so arrival and onward transfer are easy to organise.
What it means for a private, unhurried itinerary
For a guest based in Dubai who wants Abu Dhabi's culture in a day — the Louvre, the Saadiyat museums, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Corniche — the rail is now a fast, traffic-independent and weather-proof way to cross between the emirates, with the Premium class offering more room for the ride.
The private layer stays intact: a chauffeur-guide and a premium car can meet you at either station, so the hours between museums, mosque and waterfront remain fully private and paced to you. The train simply removes the long highway transfer, letting an Abu Dhabi day sit comfortably alongside a Dubai base.
A confirmed, roughly one-hour Premium-class rail link makes an Abu Dhabi day an easy, weather-proof add-on to a private Dubai itinerary.
