Dubai's airport has flipped one of travel's oldest rituals. From 7 September 2026, immigration no longer means walking to a fixed counter: an officer with a handheld device now comes to you and completes passport control in roughly 12 to 15 seconds.
What changed at Dubai's airport
The service is called Click and Travel, and Dubai Airports rolled it out across all terminals after two trial phases: a family pilot in Terminal 3 in October 2025 and a wider test across every terminal from May 2026 that processed 31,373 passengers. Officers verify identity on the spot using facial recognition, electronic passport reading and automated checks, so there is no app to download and no new procedure to learn.
Saeed Ahmed Saeed, Deputy Assistant Director of Air Ports Services at Dubai Airports, framed the shift plainly: passport control moves from a fixed platform to a mobile one that travels to the passenger. It is open to visitors as well as UAE nationals, residents and GCC nationals, and works for both arrival and departure. Where a conventional counter took close to a minute per traveller, the mobile check lands at about 12 to 15 seconds.
Why it matters for a private arrival
For a guest arriving on a private itinerary, the value is not the seconds saved on paper but the friction removed at the one point of the journey you cannot arrange in advance from the lounge or the car. A shorter, mobile passport step shrinks the gap between the aircraft door and your waiting driver, and the day's first appointment, a suite check-in, a desert departure or a table held Downtown, stays on schedule.
It also complements the premium arrival services already at the airport. A mobile officer can attend to a family or a guest with reduced mobility without sending anyone to queue, which suits travellers moving with children, elderly parents or a compact schedule. Paired with a pre-arranged meet-and-greet and a chauffeured transfer, the border step becomes one more detail handled quietly rather than endured.
